Project of the Innovation Task Force formed by the association Sabucedo-Rapa das Bestas, University of A Coruña, 3edata and INGACAL, co-financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD 2017/049B).

The main objective is to facilitate the management of Galician wild horses, traditionally known as \\\"bestas\\\" or \\\"garranos\\\", and to improve the knowledge of their role in the conservation and management of habitats and the agroforestry environment, through the use of innovative technologies.

The aim is to highlight the value of the \\\"bestas\\\" and their traditional management system. Highlighting not only their biological and cultural heritage, but also the importance of the ecosystem services they provide.

The management of the habitats of these animals is of vital importance, especially in the control of the shrubland. This management is essential in the prevention of forest fires, in the protection and conservation of the habitat of community interest 4020*Atlantic wetlands of Erica ciliaris, and it also means a decrease in the damage caused by wolves to cattle.

3edata is elaborating a cartography of the habitats present in the Sierra de Sabucedo, which will be related to the tracking and monitoring data of the packs obtained from GPS collars. This will make it possible to determine the use that horses make of the territory, and to detect points of conflict, such as the presence of horses on roads or on agricultural holdings.

Another focal point of the project is the analysis of biomass accumulation through multispectral images obtained from drones and satellites. The aim is to generate a technological tool that identifies the areas with the greatest risk of fire so that livestock farmers can manage the use of the land by horses, minimizing the fuel load in these areas.
